TGIF vs. SNICK, Friday, Feb. 6, Roxie Theater: This brainchild of IndieFest programmer Mike Keegan seeks to answer the question that has vexed TV audiences for two decades now: Which was truly great television, ABC’s 1990 TGIF lineup (the slate that made Urkel of “Family Matters” a national phenomenon) or Nickelodeon’s 1993 SNICK roster that included “The Adventures of Pete & Pete” and “Ren and Stimpy”? “Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau,” Saturday, Feb. 7, and Wednesday, Feb. 11, Roxie Theater: The 1996 “Island of Dr. Moreau” remake starring Marlon Brando, Val Kilmer and David Thewlis was a cherished project for its original director Richard Stanley. He was fired, but he didn’t exactly go away. What happened to Stanley and to what would become a legendary misfire is revealed in David Gregory’s fascinating documentary. 12th Big Lebowski Party, Saturday, Feb. 7, Grand Theatre: The White Russians will be flowing at the Mission’s Grand Theatre at the popular party that celebrates Joel and Ethan Coen’s comic classic. “The Big Lebowski” will screen continuously in an evening that IndieFest promises will also include “a costume contest, beach bonfire trampoline, volleyball action, mini bowling and some nihilists.” “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” Sunday, Feb. 8, and Monday, Feb. 9, Roxie Theater: One of IndieFest’s international selections, this edgy Irish revenge thriller set against a bleak but gorgeous landscape spins the tale of a teenage sharpshooter on the hunt for whoever it was who killed her sister. Power Ballad Sing-Along (Anti-Valentine’s Day Party), Saturday, Feb. 14, Rox

ie Theater: Valentine’s Day may be for lovers, but not at IndieFest, where singles take their raucous revenge with this evening that includes a performance by the sketch group the Mess, as well as a sing-along to classic ’80s power ballads. Don’t stop believin’.
