She was born in Athens, Greece on December 6th, 1925. Loula came to San Francisco in 1951 after WWII and the Greek Civil War to join her sister, Aretie Calligas, and take care of her neice Athena. She married Lambros Georges, nephew of Jack Jerome, in 1954. After having two sons, Dimitri and Alexander, they moved from San Francisco to Berkeley in 1958. In 1968, just across from the bustle, glitter, brass, and marble of Macy’s, Loula and Lambros opened Lambro’s Coffee Shop. A small “haven” - with eleven stools - where she became known as “The Great Lady of the Coffee Shop”.
Loula loved and adored all children, and all the children would flock to her. She was an amazing cook, specializing in many Greek desserts - especially her signature “galatoboureko” which was famous both here and in Greece. Loula will be remembered for her warm smile, and caring soul. We are all blessed to have known her and have had her in our lives.
