Norma M. Calgaro

1922 - 2015

-

Our Beloved Mother, Norma Mary Calgaro, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2015.

She is survived by her children, Gerry, Tom, Therese, Mark, daughter- inlaw Debbie and son- in- law Dave. She treasured her grandchildren, Michelle ( Kevin), Jimmy, Peter ( Teyling), Lisa, Damiano and great grandchildren Adriana, Luca, Nico, and Piero. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Peter and devoted sons Jim and David. She is survived by relatives both here and in Italy.

Norma was born on September 26, 1922 on Prague St. in the Excelsior to Simone and Angela Pesce, and was the youngest of six children. She was a graduate of Balboa High School class of 1940. She worked at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard during WWII. In 1947 she married Peter Calgaro at Corpus Christi Church and they raised their family right here at home in the Excelsior. Norma went back to work in 1970 and retired from Wells Fargo in 1983.

Norma enjoyed cooking for her family especially during the holidays. We will always remember her in the kitchen making ravioli or gnocchi, and a big pot of gravy while listening to her records on the HiFi. She enjoyed watching the Giants on TV, her bus trips to Reno, and summer vacations in Guerneville and Lake Tahoe.

She was a selfless devoted Mother who always put her family’s needs before her own. We were blessed to have her for so many years and will miss her terribly, but she is finally home with the love of her life and our brothers.

The family would like to thank Norma’s caregivers Tess, Vicky and Venus for their loving care the past few years.

Friends may visit after 5pm Thursday and are invited to attend the Vigil service Thursday 7pm and the funeral Friday 9: 15am from the chapels of Valente Marini Perata & Co., 4840 Mission St., SF then to St. Veronica Church, South San Francisco where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10: 00am.
