Oklahoma City fires Brooks

-

The Oklahoma City Thunder fired Scott Brooks on Wednesday, parting ways with a head coach who led the team to three conference finals only to falter this season as his key players were injured.

Brooks coached the Thunder for seven seasons. Starting in 2010- 11, he led the team to the Western Conference finals three out of four years, and the Thunder reached the NBA Finals in 2012. The Thunder ( 45- 37) failed to make the playoffs this season, as injuries, including to Kevin Durant, limited them.

Brooks was 338- 207 (. 620) with the Thunder and was the 2009- 10 NBA Coach of the Year.

“This is an extremely difficult decision on many levels,” Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti said. “Scott helped establish the identity of the Thunder and has earned his rightful place in the history of our organization through his seven years as a valued leader and team member.”

Brooks, born and raised in San Joaquin County, has been criticized for failing to win a title with Durant and Russell Westbrook.

“This decision is not a reflection of this past season, but rather an assessment of what we feel is necessary at this point in time in order to continually evolve, progress and sustain,” Presti said.

Rondo done in Dallas: Rajon Rondo has played his last game for the Mavericks, and Chandler Parsons will have surgery on his right knee and is done for the season.

Head coach Rick Carlisle acknowledged that Rondo, with whom he has feuded, will not play another game for Dallas.

“I am giving you our interpretation of it, and this is fact,” Carlisle said. “From here, we’re moving forward.”

Hawks’ sale: A group headed by billionaire Antony Ressler has agreed to purchase the Atlanta Hawks for $ 850 million. Former NBA swingmann Grant Hill, Spanx founder Sara Blakely and her husband, entrepreneur Jesse Itzler, are part of the new ownership group.

Mirotic out: Chicago forward Nikola Mirotic ( left knee) will miss Thursday’s Game 3 at Milwaukee.
