William Jeffrey Filter, aged 64, died peacefully at home on April 10, 2015 after a yearlong struggle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Jeffrey, beloved son, brother, husband and father was born on December 11, 1950 in Dallas, Texas, and raised at Congress Lake, Ohio from 1953 on. He graduated from University School in Cleveland in 1969, and attended the University of Southern California where he earned a B.A. in 1973 and M.B.A. in 1975. Jeff was a member and president of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, Delta Pi chapter, USC varsity Crew and Rugby teams, and a Trojan Knight.

Jeff moved to San Francisco in 1975 and spent the rest of his life in the Bay Area. Jeff’s financial career spanned forty years starting with Solomon Brothers, and continued with Hambrecht & Quist, Woodman, Kilpatrick & Gilbraith, Alex Brown, Campbell Cowperthwa­it, and Merrill Lynch. He was a past member of the San Francisco Bond Club (club historian and president 2002) where he received the Oliver V. “Hobbs” Merle Memorial Award in 2000. He was also a past member of the French and Olympic Clubs, as well as a current member of The Bohemian Club, and Walnut Creek Sunrise Rotary, where he establishe­d the award winning “Fiscal Fitness” program for high school seniors. Jeff’s biggest joys were playing music – guitar and piano - and bringing people together for great food, wine and conversati­on. He was the consummate storytelle­r and considered the “historian” for friends’ and club lore. He was a regular at Sam’s Grill and a true Bohemian.

Jeff is survived by his wife Victoria Von Arx, daughter Elise, son George,

sister Susan Filter and her husband Peter Koch of Berkeley, sister Karen Filter of La Jolla, mother Nancy Himmelrigh­t Wickes of Berkeley, father William H.
