The Looker
Serena & Lily’s classically pretty new clothing collection.
It was only a matter of time before Serena & Lily branched into apparel, and this month marks its first foray into women’s fashion. With an emphasis on form and construction, the new capsule collection is a natural extension of the brand’s home decor and textiles line, but with a decidedly more feminine sensibility.
Inspired by classic vintage styles, the collection is built around timeless silhouettes, impeccable tailoring, quality and versatility. “My vision started with a void I found in my own wardrobe — iconic pieces that are surprisingly hard to find in just the right fit,” says Serena Dugan, chief creative officer and co-founder of Serena & Lily. The line appeals to women looking for investment pieces that aren’t trend driven, as evidenced by the classic Jane shirtdress in chambray pinstripe ($325) and the casual, drawstring waist Margot popover dress ($275). Stamped with the brand’s signature use of color and patterns, each item in the collection serves as a blank canvas for showcasing the wearer’s individuality. Each garment can be worn multiple ways and will look different from one person to the next depending on how it’s styled. “The pieces in a woman’s wardrobe, like those in her home, should serve as a foundation for self-expression,” she says.
Dugan proves to have her finger on the pulse, as the “lessis-more” attitude becomes the resounding fashion philosophy in the Bay Area. From tailored pieces, like the Alice party dress ($325) in a crisp taffeta-like cotton, to billowy silk ensembles like the Ruthie poncho ($195) and Katherine wide-leg pant ($295), the Serena & Lily Capsule Collection will no doubt find a home in many closets. “It's a nice change to obsess over the details of fit, than to obsess over the slope of a chair arm,” Dugan says.
