Good day for McGehee

- By John Shea John Shea is a San Francisco Chronicle staff writer.

Casey McGehee collected a season-high three hits Saturday, including his first in 15 tries with a runner in scoring position. The third baseman handled every ball hit his way and advanced two bases on a single. As if it were 2014. “For whatever reason, it’s taken a little bit to settle in, period. It’s all on me,” said McGehee, who had a rough first month with his new team, bringing a .164 average into Saturday’s game with a teamhigh three errors. He didn’t blame his knee injury.

“I’m kind of finding that rhythm, trying to relax. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is not focus so much on results but on things you can control, and I think I’ve done a little better job of that in the last week.

“Today’s one day. The trick is to come back tomorrow and keep the same mind-set and find something to help the team.”

Manager Bruce Bochy, who has kept faith in McGehee, said, “It’s a matter of time. This guy can hit. And he just seems like he’s getting more and more comfortable.” Crawford trend: Lefty-swinging Brandon Crawford is 7-for-21 against lefty pitchers, including Saturday’s homer off Hector Santiago.

“I wish I knew exactly what it was. I’d try it against righties,” Crawford said. “I’ve had a lot of work against lefties in batting practice.”

Crawford is the team leader in homers (five) and RBIs (12). In 2013, he had five April homers but four the rest of the season. “Hopefully, that doesn’t happen this year,” he said.

Buster Posey hit his fourth homer, and Crawford said, “He told me he doesn’t want me to get too far ahead.” Briefly: The Giants lead the majors with eight one-run wins. ... Jake Peavy threw off a mound, about 25 pitches, for the first time since going on the disabled list with a lower back strain. He’s targeted to throw again Tuesday. ... Hunter Pence took flies and grounders in the outfield and is expected to hit on the field Sunday.
