Gerrard’s farewell: Carrying one daughter on his shoulders and with his two others by his side, Steven Gerrard circled the field inside Anfield and received the acclaim of adoring Liverpool fans one last time.

Gerrard, 34, played his final home match in the red of Liver- pool he has represented with distinction for 17 years.

The Reds lost 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace, ending Liverpool’s slim hopes of qualifying for next year’s Champions League. Manchester United qualified instead.

“I’ve been dreading this moment,” Gerrard said, addressing the 44,673 fans, “and I’m absolutely devastated I won’t be playing in front of these supporters again.”

Gerrard will leave Liverpool after next week’s match at Stoke to join the Los Angeles Galaxy.
