Rosa Escobar Melendez

December 7, 1927 – May 12, 2015

-

Rosa Escobar Melendez was born in El Salvador on December 7, 1927. She was one of six children of Ramon Melendez and Maria Escobar. Angela, Celia, Francisco, Julio, and Fide. She emigrated to the United States with her only son, Jose S. Aguilar in November of 1952.

Rosa (Rosita) was a softspoken, but determined young woman. She dreamed the American Dream, and had but one goal in life: to take on all obstacles so that her son could have a piece of that Dream. Despite not knowing the language or the culture of this new land, she struggled to establish her family, through her son, in this land of plenty. She was deeply loved by all of her family. She established friendships that lasted a life time. Others could feel that she was true in her affections.

Early on, Rosa spent time traveling. She visited Europe, Southeast Asia, South America, East Asia, and many parts of the U.S. She made many friends during these trips and enjoyed herself immensely.

Rosa loved plants and flowers, but she was absolutely enthralled by roses—red roses. She liked anything that was red.

She loved family gatherings for birthdays and holidays. She loved children and had a special relationship with her nephews and nieces, especially Mary, Raymond, and Johnny Richardson, and Jeanette Spivey, whose son, Nick was like a grandson to her

Rosa is survived by sisters Celia Galdamez, Fide Melendez, and brother Julio Escobar. She is also survived by her son, Jose Aguilar, daughter-in-law Celia Aguilar; her grandsons Ismael and Daniel Aguilar, their spouses Quynh Trieu Aguilar, and Miranda Garcia Aguilar--and the joys of her life--her great-grand-children Lucas and Zoe Aguilar; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Rosa passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, in San Francisco, California. She was 87.

Friends may visit Wednesday, May 20, 2015 after 4:00 p.m. and are invited to attend the Vigil Service Wednesday 7:00 p.m. at DUGGAN’S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, May 21, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angel’s Church, Colma, California. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery.
