Kyle Busch wins in Xfinity return

-

After a scary crash at Daytona in February left him with a broken leg and foot, Kyle Busch had to focus on some pretty simple milestones — standing up, walking — before resuming his NASCAR Sprint Cup series career last month.

Now he’s all the way back. Busch returned to NASCAR’s Xfinity Series on Saturday for the first time since his accident, and he did so with a flourish, winning at Michigan International Speedway.

“It’s an emotional day, and any win is,” he said. “You never know when it’s your last, obviously that’s for sure after Daytona and what happened.”

He won the 250-mile, 125-lap race in his No. 54 Toyota by 0.477 of a second over Chase Elliott.

Will Power recorded the fastest lap time late in the qualifying session at Honda Indy Toronto, completing the 1.755-mile, 11-turn Exhibition Place street circuit in 59.4280 seconds, and he will start from the pole Sunday. Penske teammate Simon Pagenaud will join him in the front row after finishing second in 59.6095. NHL: Defenseman Nathan Beaulieu signed a $2 million, two-year contract with Montreal. Beaulieu, 22, had one goal and eight assists in 64 games last season with the Canadiens.

Defenseman Marcus Pettersson of Sweden signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks. WNBA: Glory Johnson’s attorney says a Maricopa County (Ariz.) Judge has granted a motion to dismiss charges against his client for her role in a fight with fellow WNBA All-Star and then-fiancee Brittney Griner on April 22. Horse racing: Triple Crown winner American Pharoah took a victory lap at Churchill Downs before a loud, supportive crowd.
