Mary Louise Green

-

Mary Louise Green gently closed her eyes and passed from this life on May 8, 2015.

Born in Fresno, California on February 9, 1929 to Elinor and Edward Green, Mary Louise spent most of her life in San Francisco.

After her graduation from U. C. Berkeley she spent 6 months abroad in Israel and England. This fueled a lifelong love of travel. Throughout her life she travelled extensively with her partner of 53 years, John Carney, going mainly to the Eastern European countries, Turkey and Greece where they participated several times in the reenactment of the ancient Greek games at Nemea.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to call Mary Louise an activist because she participated full-heartedly in every aspect of her life whether it was working in the test kitchens of Betty Crocker, teaching at Bayside Middle School in San Mateo for more than 30 years or working for the American Red Cross Disaster Services and travelling to several disaster affected areas in the United States.

After her retirement she volunteered at the San Francisco Office of Emergency Services. She was also very active at her parish church, St Teresa where she taught catechism, led bible study sessions and was famous for her dedicated service to St. Vincent de Paul, getting at up at 4:30 a.m. to make platters of tuna fish sandwiches for the homeless of San Francisco.

Mary Louise was also an active member of the Republican Party where she made many dear friends. She attended several National Republican Conventions.

Her passions included animals, reading, current events, fine food, travel, the San Francisco Symphony and art.

For several decades Mary Louise’s kind generosity was apparent as she hosted rehearsal dinners, wedding receptions, birthday parties as well as her annual Easter dinner where not only friends but friends of friends were always welcome.

A funeral Mass will be said for Mary Louise at St Teresa of Avila Church, 390 Missouri St., San Francisco on June 18 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, Mary Louise would wish that you make a contribution in her name to one of the following worthy places:
