Frances Hutcheson Sangiacomo passed away after an extended illness on February 20. 2015. Most of Fran’s life was spent in the health care profession taking care of people physically as a nurse and lifting their spirits and hers with her humor. After Frances’ husband, Joseph J. Sangiacomo and her favorite brother died within a month of each other in 1971, Fran was left with 4 small children and a broken heart. She found herself in the office of a psychologist. After hearing her story, he asked her to close her eyes and imagine one large barrel on either side, telling her to put all her troubles in the barrels. After a short time she looked at him and said, “Do you have any more barrels?” Barrel’s she filled, not just with her troubles but with her spirit, resilience and determination to live her life “Her Way”. Fran had a heart of Gold and was extremely generous especially to those she chose. She was especially generous with her opinions. Fran always had an opinion was not afraid to voice it. Fran’s fearlessness was her strength throughout her life and in her passing. Fran loved the big city and was always the life of the party. This was just another example of Fran’s generosity, she never hesitated to share her love of fun and a certain amount of “mischievous” with others. Frances Louise Hutcheson Sangiacomo was the third of eight children born to Arthur and Frances Hutcheson in Visalia, California. She graduated from George McCann grammar school and Visalia High School, and immediately left Visalia for the City she loved, San Francisco. Frances earned her RN degree from St. Mary’s School of Nursing and soon after married Joseph J. Sangiacomo in February, 1957. In May1971, Fran attained her Master’s Degree from University of California at San Francisco. Frances was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Bill and first her husband, Joe. She later married George Poeschel who died in 2000. She leaves her four children; Patrick J. Sangiacomo, Elizabeth Sangiacomo Lewis, Michael L. Sangiacomo and Mary Sangiacomo, and six grandchildren: Dominic, Anthony, Angelina Sangiacomo, Jae (Khoren Babakhanyan), Joseph Sangiacomo and A.J.Raymond. She is also survived by her brothers, Vincent and Patrick Hutcheson; her sisters, Margaret Marcroft, Eileen Short, Dorothy Hogan and Elizabeth Munoz and their families. A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 at San Francisco National Cemetery at 11:00 am with a reception to follow.
