Friday night fight was OK, says Tigers’ Iglesias

A day after he was involved in a dugout scrap with a teammate, Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias said he was fine with his role in the altercatio­n.

“I just go by instincts, and my instincts tell me to do that,” he said. “I’m OK with it.”

Iglesias shoved Tigers catcher James McCann and threw his glove at him during a 7-2 loss to Boston on Friday night.

“It wasn’t a big deal,” Iglesias said Saturday. “Things happen. It is what it is. When you deal (with) something for 162 games, everybody’s not going to be on the same page. But it’s over.”

A replay showed McCann approachin­g Iglesias in the dugout. Iglesias shoved McCann in the chest before being restrained by third baseman Nick Castellano­s. Then the All-Star shortstop threw his glove.

McCann said after the game the squabble was an “in-house subject” and had been taken care of. Jays trade for Pennington: The Toronto Blue Jays boosted their infield depth, acquiring former A’s infielder Cliff Pennington and cash from the Arizona Diamondbac­ks for minor-league shortstop Dawel Lugo.

Pennington, 31, hit .237 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 72 games for Arizona. Briefly: Nationals center fielder Denard Span, out since July 7, has experience­d a setback in his rehabilita­tion from a back injury that will delay his return from the disabled list. ... Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez is headed back to Miami to be examined by a doctor after feeling stiffness in his right shoulder following Friday night’s start against the Braves. ... The Indians placed pitcher Cody Anderson on the 15-day DL with a strained muscle on his left side.
