Linda Marie Swantner

January 1, 1945 - July 29, 2015

-

Resident of Lafayette. Born on January 1st, 1945 (second baby born in Los Angeles that year), Linda was a true New Year’s Day baby. Known as “La” to her husband, Steve, she was born to Olive and Bill Anderson. She grew up in Hayward, San Francisco and Daly City.

Linda passed away on July 29th, 2015, after a long, hard fought battle with Type I Diabetes. She fought the good fight for over 50 years and never once complained or felt sorry for herself.

She married in 1972 and had two children, Betsy (wife of Brett) and Scott (husband of Kelly), whom she adored. She was blessed with two grandchildren, Oscar and Marshall, and three wonderful step-grandchildren, Chris, Kyle and Jacqui, whom she loved completely. She worked for University of California San Francisco for 25 years. She was forced to take medical leave from this job due to her illness.

Linda loved family, friends, animals, flowers, mountains and sea shores. Her favorite memories were of Lake Tahoe where she met a “dashing young man” named Steven James Swantner. They married in 1972. This holy union lasted some 42 years and included many challenges, all met by Steve and Linda with courage and fierce determination combined with lots of love and respect.

She was especially fond of making sure everyone was taken care of and treated in a loving manner. Her stories and laughter was legendary, keeping pace with her life until the bitter end.

We will remember Linda for her huge heart, warm smile, overly generous nature and her immense pride she had for her family. She was a true friend to all that knew her.

A celebration of Linda’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made Linda’s name to the American Diabetes Association or the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
