Bloomberg News layoffs

-

Bloomberg News began layoffs Tuesday. As many as 90 people were expected to be cut throughout the company and across bureaus, people familiar with the plans said. News of the layoffs was first reported by the New York Post.

About a dozen positions will be cut in Bloomberg’s 200-person Washington bureau, and about 20 in New York, people familiar with the plan said. The rest of the cuts will come in global newsrooms.

Editor in chief John Micklethwait plans to refocus coverage on business, finance, economics, technology and politics.

Bloomberg is expanding in other directions, hiring dozens for a commentary site.

Founder Michael Bloomberg returned in September 2014 to the company he founded, after three terms as mayor of New York, and has made a number of changes to the operation.
