At peace in San Francisco August 30, 2015 surrounded by the presence and prayers of her family. Age 88.

Lydia was born in Nogales, AZ. Graduate of Dominican College of San Rafael, married the late John J. Taheny, Jr. in 1950, and they raised their nine children in St. Brendan’s Parish. Active in the St. Brendan’s Mothers Club, taught the Junior Great Books Program, and the Archdioces­an Council of Catholic Women (ACCW).

Survived by her children: Michael (Carol), Ann Marie (Mike) Miller, Brian, Lydia, Rev. Mark, Jeannette AlAsfour, Jack, & Mary Ann; and her sisters Alice & Ann Marie Karam.

Special affection for Sr. Margaret Karam, O.P. and innumerabl­e nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Loving Grandmothe­r of Ann Marie Taheny; Renée Gawrych; Katie Kearns; Jacqueline Grosu; Alex, Michael, Nicholas, & Samantha Miller; Eric Melder; Sami, Celina, Ramsey, & Mishal Al-Asfour; Jack, Jeremy, Alyssa, & Joseph Taheny; Teddy, Brian, & Stephen Taheny, and eleven great-grandchild­ren: Andrew & Allison Seefeldt; Justin, Danny and Liam Gawrych; Parker & Jolie Kearns; and Noah Grosu; Alexa, Siscily and Simon Taheny.

Pre-deceased by her husband John J. Taheny, Jr., her son Theodore Robert “Ted”; her brother George Karam, and sisters Lorraine Cappello & Sally Mayer; brothers-in-law Fathers Ted & Bob Taheny, S.J., sisterin-law Eleanor Taheny, son-in-law Adil Al-Asfour.

Friends may visit Friday after 4:00pm and are invited to attend a Vigil on Friday evening, September 4, at 7:00 PM at DUGGAN’S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City, CA. 94014

Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM on Saturday September 5, 2015, St. Brendan Church, 29 Rockaway Avenue at Ulloa, S.F., Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.
