Lee leads last LPGA major, but Ko looms

-

South Korea’s Mi Hyang Lee kept the lead in stormy conditions Saturday at the Evian Championship in Evianles-Bains, France, and New Zealand teenager Lydia Ko remained in contention to become the youngest player to win a major.

Lee shot 1-under-par 70 to reach 10-under 203. American Lexi Thompson was a stroke back after a 66.

Morgan Pressel had a 71 to drop into a tie for third with Ko at 8-under. The 18-year-old Ko shot a 67 and is pursuing her last chance to become the youngest female major winner. If she wins, Ko will surpass Pressel, who won the Kraft Nabisco Championship at 18

years, 10 months, 9 days in 2007.

Jimmy Mullen and Gavin Moynihan each earned two points to help Britain and Ireland take a 7-5 lead over the United States in the Walker Cup matches at Royal Lytham and St Annes in England.

On Sunday, the amateur event will close with morning foursomes matches and 10 afternoon singles matches.

England’s Lee Slattery and Spain’s Rafa Cabrera-Bello each shot 7under 63 to share the third-round lead at the KLM Open in Zandvoort, Netherlands. Baseball: Slumping Washington Nationals right-hander Drew Storen is sidelined by a broken right thumb resulting from a fit of temper, and he’ll probably miss the rest of the season.

Storen hurt himself slamming the lock box on his locker in frustration after his latest outing, manager Matt Williams said. The incident happened after Storen gave up a go-ahead homer to Yoenis Céspedes in the eighth inning Wednesday, helping the Mets complete a three-game sweep.

Indians ace Corey Kluber remains slowed by a hamstring injury and it remains unclear when he will make his next start. The AL’s reigning Cy Young Award winner hasn’t pitched since Aug. 29. Manager Terry Francona said Kluber “still feels it a little bit.” Basketball: Defending champion France overwhelmed Turkey 76-53 before a record indoor crowd of 26, 135 to make the European basketball championship quarterfinals in Lille, France.
