Ready, Set, Go: Los Angeles broadens its art horizons
Downtown L.A. adds to its burgeoning Grand Avenue arts corridor next week with the opening of the Broad, built by philanthropists and longtime art collectors Eli and Edythe Broad. The couple built the Broad Contemporary Art Museum at LACMA but pulled out to showcase their private 2,000-piece collection in a three-story, honey-combclad building across from the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The inaugural installation’s 250 works represent 50 years of contemporary art from Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons and their contemporaries, as well as artists working today. Advance tickets (optional, but recommended) are available now. Vitals: Opens next Sunday, Sept. 20. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays. Free. 221 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles. (213) 232-6220. www. thebroad.org. Fog is fun: The Pacific Coast Fog Fest began 30 years ago as an effort to promote the coastal virtues of notoriously fog-bound Pacifica. Yet it’s rarely (some say never) foggy for the Fog Fest, which starts with a parade along Palmetto Avenue. The festival will host the “50 Tour” Super Bowl-themed exhibit and offers arts and crafts, a full day of live music, a kids’ fun zone, contests and of course food and drinks. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 26-27. Free. (650) 355-8200. www.pacificcoastfogfest.com. Farm fete in Ventura: More than 20 Central Coast farms growing all manner of produce will provide hands-on activities and educational demonstrations for visitors on Ventura County Farm Day. Guided and self-guided tours are available until 3 p.m., followed by a barbecue at Limoneira Ranch in Santa Paula. An artisan food marketplace joins the lineup this year. 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Sept. 26. Farm tours free; barbecue $35 adults/$15 ages 12 and younger. (805) 901-0213. www.venturacountyfarmday.com.
