Douglas Bruce Aikins, died on August 21st, 2015 in Stanford Hospital after being admitted for complicati­ons from lymphoma, for which he was undergoing treatment since March. Over the course of more 35 years as a profession­al attorney in the California Bay Area, he establishe­d a prominent legal career, specializi­ng in land use, environmen­tal, and real estate developmen­t law, with clients including Hewlett Packard, Home Depot, and Steve Jobs. Doug Aikins was a Bay Area resident of the past four decades in Palo Alto, Portola Valley, San Francisco, and Redwood City.

Born at Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego on October 10, 1950, Doug Aikins was a fourth generation California­n and a retired Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. He married Jan (Boke) Aikins of Norman, Oklahoma in 1971, mother of sons Ross and Andy, and graduated from Oklahoma University (’72) before receiving his Juris Doctorate at the University of San Francisco (’77) and being admitted to the California State Bar Associatio­n in 1978. He was a passionate sportsman and outdoors enthusiast who enjoyed camping, rowing, golf, hunting, fishing, and earned a second-degree black belt in mixed martial arts from Urban Combat Reality-Based Self Defense Academy in Menlo Park. Other meaningful recent sporting and social affiliatio­ns included the Olympic Club and Tiburon Yacht Club.

Doug Aikins is survived by his sons, Drs. Ross and Andrew Aikins, his close stepson Michael Hale, Esq. of his previous marriage to Deborah Churton, and his brother and sister, Alan and Lynne Aikins. Services will be held Sunday, September 20th at 1:00pm at the Tiburon Yacht Club.
