Prime-time games for Cal, Stanford

Fresh off its return to the Associated Press Top 25, Cal’s next road game at Utah on Oct. 10 has been picked up by ESPN. The No. 24 Bears will kick off against the Utes at 7:15 p.m. in a matchup of now-undefeated Pac-12 teams.

Meanwhile, the kickoff time for Saturday’s game between No. 18 Stanford and visiting Arizona will be 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Network. The Cardinal moved up three spots in this week’s poll.

The Mountain West Conference named San Jose State running back Tyler Ervin its Offensive Player of the Week. The senior ran for a school-record 300 yards on 42 carries in the Spartans’ 49-23 thumping of Fresno State on Saturday night. Ervin had three rushing touchdowns and also caught four passes for 45 yards. His 345 yards of total offense were 98 more than the Bulldogs mustered. Ervin and the Spartans play at Auburn on Saturday.

NHL: Representa­tives of Las Vegas and Quebec City will make presentati­ons to the league’s executive committee Tuesday in hopes of landing expansion franchises. It is expected to take at least two years before the NHL would have 32 teams. High schools: A quarterbac­k in New Jersey who collapsed after taking a hit on the playing field died from massive internal bleeding caused by a lacerated spleen, according to autopsy reports made public Monday. The Morris County medical examiner found that the spleen of 17-year-old Evan Murray was “abnormally enlarged,” making it more susceptibl­e to injury.
