If only they’d been healthy

- By John Shea John Shea is a San Francisco Chronicle staff writer.

It’s a trend in San Francisco, but manager Bruce Bochy doesn’t subscribe to the theory that teams playing deep into October and can be at a disadvantage physically the following year.

“I don’t buy into that,” Bochy said. “Clubs have come back and played very well the next year. You look at the Royals. They’ve had a big year. The Yankees in their time.

“For some reason, these odd years really hurt us as far as the injuries. For some reason, every year, you talk about staying healthy, you’ll be fine. Every team deals with injuries, but it’s fair to say we’ve got to be one of the hardest-hit teams.”

Hunter Pence and Joe Panik and Brandon Crawford and Angel Pagan and Nori Aoki and Matt Cain and

Tim Lincecum and Jake Peavy and all the concussions and all the obliques and ...

It makes a manager wonder where his team would have been if healthy.

“I certainly believe we’d be in a much better situation,” Bochy said. “You look at the core players and the time they missed, you’d certainly like to think we’d be in a different situation.

“We got some great contributions from young guys, and this team has done a good job not dwelling on (players) we’re missing. They keep pushing and pressing on. It’s all you can do in this game. We’re not going to sit here and say where we could’ve been with those guys.

“Hey, all these injuries happened. You have to deal with it. It certainly would’ve been nice to have a healthy group.”

Briefly: Lincecum, rehabbing from hip surgery, was at the game and got a big cheer when shown on the scoreboard after the second inning. He remains on crutches and is expected to hang with the club this week. ... Bochy said the rotation will stay as is for now. He wouldn’t say whether Madison Bumgarner will make his last scheduled start in the season finale, refusing to look past Bumgarner’s start Tuesday against the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw.
