Barnes expects to OK extension

Warriors small forward Harrison Barnes spoke about his contract-extension negotiations publicly for the first time at Monday’s Media Day, expressing confidence that “things are going to work out.”

He said he’d like to get things hammered out by the Oct. 31 deadline, “but things don’t always happen that way. But I do know for sure I love it here in Oakland and this is home for me.”

Barnes switched agents this month and reportedly turned down a four-year, $64 million offer. The Warriors took talks to extend the rookie contracts of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson down to the wire, and that’s what general manager Bob Myers expects to happen with Barnes.

His teammates had some fun with him. Andre Iguodala said he’s going to really help backup center Festus Ezeli with his negotiations, but the captain isn’t going to aid as much with Barnes.

“Harrison’s numbers are so large that it doesn’t really matter,” Iguodala said. “Rich is rich.”

Barnes sneaked into Andrew Bogut’s news conference and asked the center if he added to his collection of cars this offseason. Without missing a beat, Bogut joked: “I added a ‘Black Falcon.’ … Once you sign that new contract, we’ll get you a gold-plated one. How about that?” Iguodala gets knee injections: Iguodala said he went to Germany this summer to get knee injections to help with his tendinitis. Unlike the procedure he had the previous summer, Iguodala was not sidelined this time — saying he rehabbed and played golf every day in Germany.

“The knees feel really good,” Iguodala said. “I’ve been dunking a lot lately, which I normally don’t do in the offseason. I’m really excited to be healthy and stay smart about being on top of things and trying to play 82 games.” Warriors ink Gordon: The Warriors on Monday made official the expected signing of Ben Gordon to a training-camp deal, and some of his new teammates are already talking about the 12th-year guard as part of the squad.

Gordon, who has averaged 14.9 points on 40.1 percent three-point shooting during his career, is expected to be in a competition with Chris Babb, Ian Clark, Jarell Eddie, Tony Mitchell and Juwan Staten for the Warriors’ final roster spot.

“I’ve been working out with him the last week,” Iguodala said. “I think he’s going to use this year to kind of get another long deal.”
