Four-star shooting guard Tyson Jolly signed a national letter of intent to attend Cal, the Bears announced Wednesday morning.

Jolly verbally committed to the Bears in April, but reclassified to the 2016 class after reportedly learning his high school transcript was half a credit short of Cal’s admissions standards. He is playing this season at Elev8 Sports Institute in Delray Beach, Fla.

He chose Cal over offers from Oklahoma State, SMU and Gonzaga, among others.

“I’m happy to have Tyson on board with our program after a year at prep school,” head coach Cuonzo Martin said in a statement. “He is a passionate player who is excited to be a part of what we are trying to do.”

As a senior at Putnam City West High School in Oklahoma City last season, the 6-foot-4, 200-pounder averaged 20.2 points, 9.1 rebounds and three assists per game. He was named the Oklahoman’s Big All-City Player of the Year after leading the Patriots to the Class 6A state semifinals.

Wednesday marked the start of basketball’s early-signing period for 2016. The Bears have received a verbal commitment from Oscar Frayer, a three-star small forward from Hayward, and also are targeting four-star point guard Charlie Moore.

Moore announced Wednesday morning on Twitter that he will decide Thursday afternoon between VCU, Memphis and the Bears at Morgan Park High School in Chicago. Moore, who visited Cal last month, is rated 57th nationally in the 2016 class by Rivals.com.

If one more player signs, the Bears will have no more room — on paper, at least — in their 2016 class. The 2015-16 team has 12 of the 13 available scholarships filled, with guard Tyrone Wallace being its only scholarship senior.

Still, it seems probable that at least one or two more 2016 scholarships will become available, as freshman forwards Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb could leave school early for the NBA draft.

Cal opens its regular season at home Friday night against Rice.
