Evelyn Reed, 88, a longtime Burlingame resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 20th, 2015 following a brief illness.

Evelyn was born in 1927 in Oakland, CA and later attended Mission High School in San Francisco, where she met her beloved late husband, Walter Reed. After waiting for Walt to return from the war and marrying him in 1948, Evelyn spearheaded the family move to Hillsborough in 1963 where she enjoyed raising her 3 children, attending St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Burlingame and helping Walt in his business. While living on the Peninsula, “Ev” pursued a successful career as a bookkeeper, small business owner and eventually, real estate investor. She and Walt relocated to various cities in the Bay Area and eventually, in their later years, back to Burlingame. Throughout their 58 years together, Ev enjoyed traveling the world with Walt and her best friend, Eulalia Jones, but her favorite destination was always Oahu, Hawaii. Known for her sharp mind, lively sense of humor and generosity, Ev was fiercely independent and lived on her own until she passed.

Evelyn was predeceased by one of her sons, Mark Norman Reed and her sonin-law, Thomas Womack. Evelyn is survived by two of her children, Jeffrey Scott Reed and Pamela Reed Womack, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her beloved aunt Elsie, her beloved brother Bob and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Per Evelyn’s wishes, no services will be held. Any memorial gifts may be made in her name to her favorite charity, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to Mission Hospice in San Mateo, CA.
