Dear Richard slipped into eternity quietly, at his beloved home, with strong, loving friends in attendance. After a short, serious illness for which he was hospitalized, Richard wanted to go home, and he did so in more ways than one; in his sunroom with a view of a lush garden and bright, warm inviting light he rested in the house he cherished and upon which he lavished every conceivable improvement and accutrement an old Victorian house could want. He chatted and smiled a lot and was truly at peace, safe and snug as a little bird nested in the strong hands of his friends. In his own time, he left for another place.

Richard was born in San Francisco to Margaret and Stanley Jordan. When he was very young the family moved to Glendale, Ca where Richard attended Thomas A. Edison grammar school, then Roosevelt Jr. High School, followed by attendance at Glendale High School from which he graduated in 1954. He then went on to study at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.

Two years later he moved back to his birthplace and resided there happily until his death. Richard loved architecture and building styles, with particular love for Victorian houses. Richard was an accomplished draftsman as well as a successful real estate broker. When any building projects were needed he designed and drew the plans - he loved doing it, and then supervised.

Richard was a loyal and steady volunteer for the annual Victorian Alliance House Tour. As docent for one of the homes on tour, he helped to ensure the tour was a success. He also volunteered for the History Expo and other historic events that helped to promote the cause. As one of the constant attendees for meetings held twice a month, he voiced his concerns for the preservation of Victorian homes, a real advocate.

His beloved house, Rosewood Hall was featured in the Noe Valley House Tour of 2007. As a preservationist he stands among the finest the city has ever seen. One thing that sets him apart is the proud fact that he always obtained permits for his improvements and paid the taxes on what he invested in. A fine upstanding citizen.

Richard’s parties were legendary, and all were welcomed. At times it seemed the grand old house was about to explode but it never did. He was extremely generous in his hospitality, with libations to suit everyone’s taste, a great pianist to make joyful noise, and enough food to keep one going strong until the wee hours.

Richard is sorely missed by his family, and many devoted friends. He is survived by his nieces Patty Sjolin (Richard), Ruthie Morrow (Michael), and his nephew Dave Peterson (Terri), and many other family members. His mother Margaret, father Stanley, brother Bob, sisters Eleanor and Dorothy predeceased him. God Speed Richard with great love from us all.

Funeral and interment serves for close family and friends will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale Ca. where dear Richard will join his beloved family forever.
