Nancy Lourette Russell

Died after several years’ illness on November 11, 2015 at Bayside Park, Emeryville. Born in Clay, Kentucky, Nancy moved to the Bay Area shortly after graduating from college. She worked as a legal secretary, office manager, and provided invaluable support services at the ACLU of Northern California and to progressiv­e, private law firms in San Francisco and Oakland. She was an avid reader, a wonderful friend, and an enthusiast­ic member of the SF Choral Society. Nancy is predecease­d by her mother, Jane Southwood, and her husband of many years, Douglas Dewar Russell, whom she met aboard the Tiburon ferry in 1968. She is survived by her brother Thomas Southwood (Frances) and nieces Phoebe and Audrey, great nephew Leaf and great niece Zoey, as well as Doug’s children and grandchild­ren to whom she was very much “Grandma.” Donations should be made to the Oasis Bird Sanctuary PO Box 2166, Scottsdale, AZ 85252.
