June 21, 1933 – November 16, 2015

-

On Monday November 16, 2015, with his children at his side, Jeff was reunited with his parents and four brothers: Dallas, Bryce, Gary and Douglas. Jeff was born in the coal mining town of Kemmerer, Wyoming to John and Georgia Allen. Jeff will be remembered by his beloved wife of 58 years, Jane (Valco) Allen, his four children, Gayle (Bud), Kevin (Jamie), Drea (Colin), and Kelly (Dave), and his seven grandchildren of whom he was most proud; Erich (Kristina), Jason, Chelsea, Cody, Joey, Tommy, and Georgia.

In his younger years Jeff lived in Rock Springs, Wyoming later moving to San Francisco with Jane and his children. Jeff and Jane first settled in the Richmond District of San Francisco in 1965 before purchasing their family home in the Sunset District in 1974. Jeff worked for the San Francisco DPW for 27 years. He was an avid baseball fan, and later a fair and patient little league coach, and had a brief baseball scholarship at the University of Wyoming before being drafted in the U.S. Army for two years. He played in a few bowling leagues and enjoyed golf after his retirement from the city. After retirement he and Jane moved to their second home in Columbia, California.

Family meant everything to Jeff, he and Jane regularly hosted picnics and dinners where family and friends came together and often included country music, which he had a memorable collection and love for. Perhaps the luckiest people in Jeff’s life were his seven grandchildren. Jeff knew precisely when to praise or push his grandchildren. He loved taking the grandkids to the zoo, and to Golden Gate Park.

Jeff spent his final days as he would have wished; with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews by his side. A private burial will take place in January at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery and a celebration of his life for family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Jeff’s name.
