Dougan Chan, age 61, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at home in San Francisco, CA. Dougan was the 2nd of 4 children born to Dick and Yuet Ngor Chan in San Francisco, CA. He was raised in the Richmond District of San Francisco, attended public schools in the area and graduated with a degree in Medical Microbiolo­gy at San Francisco State.

Dougan supported the family laundry business and later served the City and County of San Francisco for 24 years as a Deputy Sheriff. Affectiona­tely known as “Doogie,” “Doogie Howser,” or “MacGyver,” he enjoyed tinkering with tools and doing his own constructi­on projects in his spare time. Dougan also volunteere­d with Kimochi Home and with Self-Help for the Elderly Foundation, where he delivered meals to the elderly every Thanksgivi­ng. In addition, he enjoyed vacationin­g at Lake Tahoe each year.

Dougan is survived by his wife Marie and two children Denise and Daniel, his mother, siblings, nephews, nieces, and grandnephe­ws. He is and always will be remembered as a kind, supportive, loving and goodhumore­d person dedicated to his family and the wellbeing of others. He led by example, always in service to others and earned the respect of all who knew him. He will be remembered by family, friends, and families he served so selflessly.

Funeral services and burial will be held on December 16th, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Sunset View Cemetery & Mortuary at 101 Colusa Ave, El Cerrito, CA 94530.
