Carol Joanne Michelsen Way

Carol J. Way, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on November 26, 2015, Thanksgiving Day. Carol was born on August 1, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio to Carl and Mildred Michelsen.

Carol was a proud graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio and a lifetime member of Delta Zeta Sorority, serving as a field secretary and travelling the country. Following graduation, Carol taught in Dayton, Ohio before moving to San Francisco in 1957 where she met and married Robert S. Way of San Francisco. Bob and Carol settled in San Mateo in 1969 where they lived happily and raised their 2 sons. She enjoyed vacationing with her family in Lake Tahoe and travelling throughout Europe.

Carol was a great proponent of volunteerism and education and her life’s work showed that. Carol was an active community member and volunteer and served on many boards and councils including, San Mateo Grand Jury (member 1991 and 1992), San Mateo Panhellenic (past president), San Mateo AAUW (Women of the Year, Chapter President, Tech Trek), Assistance League (past president), League of Women Voters, Assistance League, Lamplighters, San Mateo County School District Organization, Director of the San Mateo Community College District Foundation Board, and San Mateo County Emergency Medical Care Committee. Carol also volunteered with the Baywood PTA (past president), Lucille Packard Childrens Hospital Auxilary Garden Cafe and many other committees.

Carol is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Robert, her son Mark (Mary) of San Mateo, CA and her son Scott (Lee) of Costa Mesa, CA; grandchildren Vincent, Isabelle, and Brooke.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Hope Lutheran Church in San Mateo.
