Marathoners can renew vows

-

Love will be in the air at the Los Angeles Marathon. The 26.2- mile race Sunday from Dodger Stadium to the Santa Monica Pier falls on Valentine’s Day, so the marathon is offering runners and spectators a chance to get married or renew their vows on the course.

At Mile 10, near the intersection of Hollywood and Vine, a justice of the peace will be on hand to perform wedding ceremonies and renew vows. A race spokeswoman said as of Tuesday, 53 couples had signed up, which is required in advance. The nuptials are part of a promotion with Universal Pictures for the upcoming release of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.” Colleges: A lawsuit filed by a group or women alleges that the University of Tennessee has violated Title IX policies and created a “hostile sexual environment” through a policy of indifference toward sexual assaults by student- athletes.

The suit states Tennessee’s policies made students more vulnerable to sexual assault and had a “clearly unreasonable response” after incidents that caused the women making complaints to endure additional harassment. The suit also states the university interfered with the disciplinary process to favor male athletes.

Bill Ramsey, a lawyer representing the school, said in a statement the university “acted lawfully and in good faith” in the situations described in the complaint.

The Southeastern Conference is asking for a rule preventing football teams from holding practices during spring break. The move came nearly a week after Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said on national signing day that the Wolverines would practice in Florida over spring break this month. Soccer: The commuter who was prevented by a group of Chelsea fans from boarding a metro train last year because he is black has accepted an invitation from Paris SaintGermain to attend the French team’s next Champions League game against the London club.

Werder Bremen came from behind to win 3- 1 at 10- man Bayer Leverkusen and reach the German Cup semifinals.
