Tim Flannery

The former Giants thirdbase coach who helped win three World Series titles under Bruce Bochy has had enough of San Diego Padres fans trolling him on Twitter. Flannery, who spent 21 seasons with the Padres organization as a player and coach, is tired of fans in San Diego calling him and Bochy “traitors” for hooking up with the Orange and Black after being fired in San Diego. “Here’s the deal one time. One time only,” Flannery shot back on Twitter. “We got run out of town, me and Boch, after he won. ... There were two World Series you ever went to ( 1984, 1998), I was on those teams.” Flannery went on to slam the Padres organization for its inability to build a winner, while praising S. F. brass (“they get the players, and pay to keep them”). He also proclaimed, “I’m a Giant for life.”

Mariano Rivera

Not that it’s any suprise, but the New York Yankees say they will dedicate a plaque for the retired relief pitcher in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium this season. The ceremony will happen Aug. 14 before a game against Tampa Bay. Rivera, who retired after the 2013 season, helped New York win five World Series. He is the majorleague career saves leader in the regular season ( 652) and postseason ( 42), and is widely considered to be a first- ballot Hall of Famer when he becomes eligible in 2019. The Yankees retired Rivera’s No. 42 in 2013. Major League Baseball retired the number throughout the league in 1997 in honor of Jackie Robinson, but players wearing it at the time could continue to use it. Rivera was the last to wear the number.
