Andersen leads Ducks in victory

Frederik Andersen made 38 saves to earn his fifth career shutout as the host Anaheim Ducks beat the Boston Bruins 4- 0 on Friday night.

The Ducks moved four points behind Pacific Division- leading Los Angeles and three points ahead of the third- place Sharks.

Jamie McGinn, Ryan Kesler, Hampus Lindholm and Rickard Rakell scored for Anaheim, which has earned a point in 11 of its past 12 home games.

Jonas Gustavsson stopped 22 shots for the Bruins, who dropped consecutiv­e games for the first time since Jan. 11- 13. With losses in the first two stops of a threegame California road swing, Boston remained three points behind Atlantic Division- leading Florida.

Andersen picked up his 15th win in his past 17 starts to keep the pressure on John Gibson in their friendly goaltendin­g rivalry heading toward the playoffs.

He punctuated a night of strong play with two big saves in the second period. After Patrice Bergeron plowed into Andersen while firing a one- timer into the goalie’s chest and dislodging the net, Andersen made a backhanded glove save while falling forward to deny Loui Eriksson.

McGinn was credited with Anaheim’s opening goal when Corey Perry’s shot hit Boston defenseman Adam McQuaid in the leg before redirectin­g off McGinn and Torey Krug as they wrestled at the top of the crease.

Capitals 4, Predators 1: Daniel Winnik scored two goals and Braden Holtby made 20 saves for his leaguebest 43rd victory for host Washington. Nashville lost in regulation for just the second time in its past 18 games.

Avalanche 4, Flames 3: Mikkel Boedker scored the only goal of the shootout as visiting Colorado won to move three points ahead of Minnesota for the second wild- card spot in the Western Conference. Avalanche defenseman Eric Gelinas left with a shoulder injury in the second period.

Blackhawks 4, Jets 0: Scott Darling made 28 saves for his first shutout of the season and Andrew Ladd scored against his former team as visiting Chicago snapped a four- game losing streak to move three points behind first- place Dallas in the Central Division.

Oilers 2, Canucks 0: Cam Talbot made 40 saves for his third shutout of the season as host Edmonton won its second in a row.

Sabres 3, Senators 1: Sam Reinhart had a goal and an assist for host Buffalo.

Briefly: Dallas forward Tyler Seguin, who is third in the NHL with 73 points, is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks after undergoing surgery for a small cut of his left Achilles tendon. He was hurt Thursday during a game against Tampa Bay. ... Calgary defenseman Dennis Wideman will miss the rest of the season because of a triceps injury suffered Wednesday, NHL. com reported. ... Philadelph­ia forward Chris VandeVelde was suspended for two games for elbowing Chicago’s Jonathan Toews in the head Wednesday.
