Midway Ville enlivens SoMa
MidwayVille is clearly easier to experience than it is to explain.
Described by co-founder Scott Levkoff as “a live-action pop-up carnival game board world, built on your stories,” it combines carnival and video game elements, turning the SoMa StrEat Food Park on 11th Street into a multifaceted artistic mini-theme park.
Maybe it’s easier to just describe what will be there: food trucks, storytelling, a haunted castle, shooting gallery and the “Mingletron 9000,” a robot-hosted meet and mingle experience. Participating artists include “Colma the Musical” composer H.P. Mendoza, DJ Fact 50 and the Mystic Midway Ensemble.
Based on the videos, photos and sketches on the Mystic Midway site, everything is bathed in a kaleidoscope of color and movement.
MidwayVille: 7 p.m.-midnight Friday, June 24. Every Friday through Sept. 30. $10-$25. 428 11th St., S.F. www.mysticmidway.com
