Cueto miffed at Royals

NEW YORK — The World Series-champion Kansas City Royals visited President Obama at the White House on Thursday. The guy who threw a two-hitter in Game 2 against the Mets would have gone had he been invited. He was not, and he is miffed.

“I believe I earned it,” Johnny Cueto said after Saturday’s game. “I was on the team and I did some things that helped them win the World Series. I feel OK, but I feel it was the team’s responsibility to invite me. I did the job for them; I think they should have had the courtesy to invite me.”

The Giants had an off day in New York. The round trip to Washington would have been easy. Cueto said he has not reached out to the Royals to find out why he wasn’ot invited.

Pagan blunder: The Giants have killed themselves with errors lately. On Saturday, they could have been doomed by a mental mistake.

Angel Pagan did not try to score from third in the 11th when Dellin Betances tried to throw an intentional ball to Brandon Crawford and sailed the pitch to the backstop. Pagan did not even have a secondary lead and did not look alert.

The Yankees then pitched to Crawford, who grounded out to end the inning.

Manager Bruce Bochy was not happy and discussed the play with Pagan.

“He said the third baseman was on the bag,” Bochy said. “He didn’t know if they were going to throw over and he was being careful. He couldn’t tell if the catcher caught it, so he was careful and held up.”

Pagan also made one of two Giants errors, but also might have saved the game with a sliding catch of a Starlin Castro bloop in the eighth. Brian McCann thought it was a hit and was doubled off first base to end the inning.

Injury report: Hunter Pence (hamstring) played six innings Saturday for Triple-A Sacramento, going 1-for-4, and is scheduled to play seven innings Sunday . ... Joe Panik (concussion) was checked by team doctors, who again said he was fine physically. But Panik will not play for a few days as he continues to refine his baseball activities on the side . ... Cory Gearrin (shoulder) will face hitters for the first time Sunday.
