Newton S. Danford, Jr. age 78, known to his friends as “Newt”, died at his home in San Diego, California, June 4, 2016.

Newt is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Treanor (Michael) a son Newton S. Danford, III and grandchildren Shannon Treanor and Connor Treanor

Newt was born August 11, 1937, in Camden , New Jersey, the son of Helen and Newton Danford. Newt was a graduate of Rider College and served in the US Navy reserve.

After college Newt was employed in several sales positions with national organizations. As a result of this employment he moved to California where he eventually worked with a small company importing various liquors into the United States for sale to a then small company known as Trader Joes.

As a lifelong sailing enthusiast Newt loved sailing in Southern California but given some great business opportunities he moved on North to San Francisco and thoroughly enjoyed sailing San Francisco Bay. Eventually his love of sailing and his great sales skills led him to Point Richmond, California and Passage Yachts. Over his years at Passage Yachts Newt became one of the top sellers of Beneteau sailing vessels. In 2002 Beneteau brought Newt to their home office in France to honor and reward him for his great sales of their sailing vessels.

As time and the damp, cool Bay area weather took it’s toll on Newt’s knees he moved to selling real estate in both Northern and Southern California. As his health deteriorated he moved from the town of Sonoma to San Diego where he could enjoy a much warmer climate and the excellent health care that was provided to him by the staff at UC San Diego - Moores Cancer Center.

At Newt’s request there will be no formal services. It was his desire that he be cremated and his ashes scattered in San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Also at his request, anyone wishing to make donations in his name please make them to The Elizabeth Hospice, 2820 Roosevelt Rd, San Diego, CA 92106.
