Emergency landing: A Southwest Airlines flight bound for Orlando made an emergency landing Saturday because of a major problem with one of its two engines. Flight 3472 from New Orleans diverted to Pensacola, Fla., after the pilot detected something had gone wrong with an engine, according to a Southwest statement. The jet, a Boeing 737-700, landed with no apparent injuries to the 99 passengers or five crew members on board, Southwest said. Pictures taken of the plane made it appear that part of the engine had blown apart, but Southwest spokesman Chris Mainz said there was no explosion.

Missouri flooding: Heavy rain swamped several areas of Kansas City, prompting high-water rescues and a temporary stoppage of the city’s downtown streetcar service. Friday night’s storms caused Brush Creek, which runs through the south side of the city, to rise 10 feet in an hour. The National Weather Service tweeted Saturday that 4.56 inches of rain fell in a 24-hour period.

Park fatality: An Ecuadoran woman fell to her death at Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park. Estefania Liset Mosquera Alcivar, 21, was a park concession worker from Quito. She fell into the canyon at Grandview Point early Friday. Park officials said she fell while socializing with co-workers near a trail along the canyon rim. Her companions saw her fall and dialed 911. Search crews used a helicopter to recover her body. Yellowstone officials say the death is under investigation.

Port bust: Federal agents in South Carolina have seized 35 tons of a chemical used to make methamphetamine at the Port of Charleston. The Drug Enforcement Administration said the chemical, benzaldehyde, was found in 55-gallon drums at the port August 17. There was enough of the chemical to make about 60 tons of meth. The drug was not properly declared through customs, and authorities believe it was being shipped by drug traffickers.

Trade violations: A seafood company in Portland, Maine, has pleaded guilty to illegally importing sea urchins from Canada in violation of federal wildlife trading laws. ISF Trading Co. specializes in buying, processing and selling sea urchins from Maine and Canada. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maine said ISF falsely labeled sea urchins it was purchasing from a Canadian company that was not authorized to export goods to the U.S. ISF faces up to five years of probation and $1.25 million in fines and forfeitures. 6 Therapy pig: The owner of a potbellied pig that serves as a therapy animal said the animal is in “pretty good” condition after being missing for six weeks. Katie Manni got a call saying Charlotte was spotted at a construction site near Aliquippa, Pa., 5 miles from home, and she retrieved her Friday. “Unfortunately she can’t tell us about her adventure,” Manni said. Charlotte serves as a therapy animal at a center for the elderly, helping to cheer up residents.
