Rapinoe kneels; ‘seems appropriate’
Hours after the U.S. Soccer Federation announced Megan Rapinoe would not be punished for kneeling during the national anthem at a women’s nationalteam game, she did it again.
Rapinoe knelt Sunday night in Atlanta before a friendly against the Netherlands, as she did Thursday, when the U.S. beat Thailand in Columbus, Ohio.
“Do I kneel forever?” she asked. “... Until I can feel like I’m being more effective in other ways, this seems appropriate.”
The United States men will play their home World Cup qualifier against Mexico in Columbus, for the fifth straight time. After four 2-0 wins at Columbus in qualifiers against El Tri, U.S. Soccer announced the locationof the Nov. 11 match. College football: Oregon receiver and Olympic hurdler Devon Allen, the fifth-place finisher at the Rio Games, will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 35-32 loss at Nebraska.
