Rapinoe kneels; ‘seems appropriat­e’

Hours after the U.S. Soccer Federation announced Megan Rapinoe would not be punished for kneeling during the national anthem at a women’s nationalte­am game, she did it again.

Rapinoe knelt Sunday night in Atlanta before a friendly against the Netherland­s, as she did Thursday, when the U.S. beat Thailand in Columbus, Ohio.

“Do I kneel forever?” she asked. “... Until I can feel like I’m being more effective in other ways, this seems appropriat­e.”

The United States men will play their home World Cup qualifier against Mexico in Columbus, for the fifth straight time. After four 2-0 wins at Columbus in qualifiers against El Tri, U.S. Soccer announced the locationof the Nov. 11 match. College football: Oregon receiver and Olympic hurdler Devon Allen, the fifth-place finisher at the Rio Games, will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 35-32 loss at Nebraska. The team also confirmed that left tackle Tyrell Crosby will miss the rest of the season because of a broken foot.

Freshman Sam Darnold will be USC’s starting quarterbac­k Friday night at Utah, replacing Max Browne, head coach Clay Helton announced. Hockey: Russia (1-1) scored four goals in a 6:14 stretch during the second period to beat North America 4-3 at the World Cup in Toronto. North America (1-1) outshot Russia 45-23. Boxing: Canelo Alvarez won’t fight again this year after breaking his right thumb in the second round of his ninth-round knockout of Liam Smith on Saturday in Arlington, Texas. Alvarez, a junior middleweig­ht, knocked down Smith three times.
