Bears’ Houston out for season: torn ACL

-

Chicago Bears linebacker Lamarr Houston will miss the rest of the season because of a torn ACL in his left knee.

Head coach John Fox confirmed the injury to WBBMAM on Tuesday night.

Houston was one of a long line of Chicago players hurt in Monday’s 29-14 loss to Philadelphia, along with quarterback Jay Cutler (sprained right thumb).

Houston clutched his knee after trying to rush the quarterback in the second quarter.

He tore the ACL in his right knee celebrating a late sack in a loss at New England in 2014.

The defense is hobbling as linebacker Danny Trevathan is scheduled for surgery Wednesday morning on a sprained thumb. Nose tackle Eddie Goldman (sprained ankle) left the field on a cart Monday night.

Other injured Bears include safety Adrian Amos and cornerback Bryce Callahan, who exited Monday’s game with concussions; safety Chris Prosinski, who bruised his right calf, and running back Ka’Deem Carey, who strained his hamstring. Chargers add back: San Diego signed running back Dexter McCluster to replace the injured Danny Woodhead. To make room on the roster, the Chargers waived wide receiver-kick returner Isaiah Burse.

McCluster has played six NFL seasons with Kansas City and Tennessee. He was a Pro Bowler in 2013.

Woodhead is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee in Sunday’s victory against Jacksonville. Giants’ audition: With Marshall Newhouse’s status uncertain because of a calf injury, Bobby Hart and Will Beatty will compete this week to determine the Giants’ starting right tackle against Washington.

Newhouse was hurt in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 16-13 win over the Saints and Hart replaced him.

Head coach Ben McAdoo said that Newhouse probably won’t be able to practice early this week, and his status for the game is up in the air. Newhouse had a walking boot Tuesday.

A second-year pro, Hart has started once for the Giants (2-0), playing right tackle against the Jets in December. Beatty is more experienced but also is just getting into game shape.
