John Lionel Dupré, MD passed away suddenly on September 15, 2016 in San Francisco at the age of 62. He was a retired psychiatri­st for the State of California and deacon at St. Anne of the Sunset. John was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended Tulane University where he earned his undergradu­ate and medical degrees. John then moved to San Francisco in 1979 to pursue his residency at UCSF. In addition to working at many hospitals around the Bay Area, John worked as a staff psychiatri­st at San Quentin State prison for thirty years. John was an immensely spiritual soul and devout catholic. He was the ultimate spiritual and emotional advisor and provider for family, friends, and anyone who was in need. John was also a beautiful writer and published poet.

John was preceded in death by his beloved father, Antoine Joseph Dupre II. John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Yadira McGrathDup­ré; daughter Joya Dupré; mother Leverne Gertrude Dupré; aunt Odelia Courseault; brother Antoine Dupré III (Carol); and sisters Marcia (Joe) and Shelly (Immanuel). John is also survived by many family and friends who loved and cherished him dearly.

A celebratio­n of his life will be held as follows: Viewing will begin on Thursday, September 22 at 6 p.m. with a Vigil Service Thursday at 7 p.m. and the Funeral Mass on Friday, September 23 at 1 p.m. ALL services will be held at St. Anne of the Sunset, 850 Judah Street San Francisco, CA 94122.
