Owusu marvels at catch by Buckeyes’ Brown

If you thought you’d never again see a catch like the one Stanford’s Francis Owusu made last year against UCLA, guess again.

During a 56-35 Stanford win, quarterback Kevin Hogan launched a 41-yard pass on a flea-flicker to the end zone. Owusu reached around safety Jaleel Wadood, grabbed the ball with both hands and pinned it to Wadood’s back as they fell.

Owusu admitted he lost sight of the ball just before making the amazing play.

On Saturday, Ohio State wide receiver Noah Brown duplicated the feat. He reached around the back of Oklahoma defensive back Michiah Quick to grab a 21-yard touchdown pass from J.T. Barrett. It was one of four TD catches he made in the then-No. 3 Buckeyes’ 45-24 win.

“Honestly, I thought it topped mine,” Owusu said. “It looked like mine, but he did it with one hand.”

Brown initially pinned the ball with his right arm before securing it with his left as the two players fell. His catch had another degree of difficulty that Owusu’s didn’t have; he had to get a foot in bounds in the corner of the end zone. Wadood was called for interference, and Quick probably should have been, too.

Suffice it to say, both catches will go down as among the greatest in the history of college football.
