Detroit’s Abdullah out at least 8 weeks

-

The Detroit Lions put running back Ameer Abdullah on the reserveinjured list with a foot injury Wednesday, keeping him out of the lineup for at least eight weeks.

Abdullah hurt his left foot on a 24-yard run in the second quarter of a loss Sunday to Tennessee and didn’t return to play. The 2015 second-round pick ran for 101 yards on 18 carries and had five receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown for the Lions (1-1) this season.

Theo Riddick probably will replace Abdullah in the starting lineup Sunday at Green Bay (1-1) and will be backed up by rookie Dwayne Washington.

Peterson to have surgery: Adrian Peterson will have surgery on his right knee to repair a torn meniscus, putting his season and perhaps his 10-year run with Minnesota in question.

The Vikings have held off placing the franchise’s all-time leading rusher on injured reserve.

Peterson was hurt in Sunday night’s victory over Green Bay, needing assistance off the field after his knee twisted while being tackled at the end of a run. He has only 50 yards on 31 attempts this season.
