Sharks win in overtime

Dylan DeMelo scored 40 seconds into overtime as the Sharks beat the Arizona Coyotes 3-2 in an exhibition game at SAP Center on Friday.

Ryan Carpenter and Tomas Hertl also scored for the defending Western Conference champions. Hertl’s goal tied the game 2-2 at the 7:11 mark of the third period.

Justin Braun finished with two assists for the San Jose goalie Aaron Dell stopped 20 shots for the victory.

Jordan Martinook and Michael Bunting scored for the Coyotes. Louis Domingue allowed all three San Jose goals on 36 shots.

St. Louis Blues forward Jaden Schwartz, who signed a five-year, $26.75 million contract in July, will be sidelined for at least a month after hurt- ing his left elbow in practice.

NFL: Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson said the team intends to “move on” from wide receiver Josh Gordon, who said Thursday that he’s entering rehab for an unspecifie­d condition.

“What we need to do is just close that chapter right now,” Jackson said. “He’s doing what he needs to do, and we need to do what we need to do, which is continue to move forward.”

One of the NFL’s most talented young players, Gordon has been susSharks. pended for 30 of the Browns past 35 games. He was scheduled to return from his latest four-game suspension next week and possibly play Oct. 9.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins will miss at least eight weeks while resting an injury to his surgically repaired left foot after the team placed him on injured reserve.

San Diego Chargers rookie defensive end Joey Bosa has been ruled out of his fourth straight game due to a hamstring injury.

The New York Jets will be without wide receiver Eric Decker on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. He is week to week with a right shoulder injury.

Basketball: The relationsh­ip between Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat continued disintegra­ting, with the All-Star saying that the team did not tell him before going public with their belief that he will not play for them again because of blood clot issues. The Heat denied the assertion.

No. 1 overall pick, Ben Simmons, broke a bone in his right foot during the Philadelph­ia 76ers’ final training-camp scrimmage. The team said Simmons fractured the fifth metatarsal bone. It was unclear how long he will be sidelined.

Minnesota’s Cheryl Reeve is the WNBA coach of the year, and Lynx center Sylvia Fowles is the league’s defensive player of the year.

Motor sports: Brad Keselowski has the pole after rain wiped out qualifying for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Dover (Del.) Internatio­nal Speedway. The field was set on owner points.
