1 Oil spill: Cleanup continued Saturday at the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in Buchanan, N.Y., where an undetermin­ed amount of oil spilled into a drainage canal leading to the Hudson River. Jerry Nappi, a spokesman for Indian Point owner Entergy, said the oil is not radioactiv­e and none was observed in the river. State environmen­tal officials were notified after an oil sheen was observed in the discharge canal Friday. Nappi said the spill occurred after the cooling system for one of the turbines in a nonnuclear area of the plant malfunctio­ned.

2 Zika virus: Zika-carrying mosquitoes have been found in a new neighborho­od of Miami Beach. The Florida Department of Agricultur­e said Saturday that it’s the sixth time Zikabearin­g mosquitoes have been captured in Miami Beach. Zika can cause severe brainrelat­ed birth defects in pregnant women who become infected. The same mosquito species that spreads Zika also transmits dengue fever.

3 Assault accusation: A lawyer in Ferguson, Mo., who is running for a seat in the Missouri House has accused another Democratic candidate of raping her during an August meeting to discuss how they could work together in the upcoming legislativ­e session. Cora Faith Walker, 31, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, which broke the story Saturday, that she was sexually assaulted by Steven Roberts Jr., a former assistant prosecutor, after going to meet him at a St. Louis apartment on the night of Aug. 26. Both candidates are running unopposed. The Post-Dispatch reported there is an active investigat­ion into Walker’s allegation­s. Roberts’ lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, said the allegation­s are “unfounded.”

4 Election complaint: The California Fair Political Practices Commission is investigat­ing a complaint that the adult film industry received foreign donations in its fight against a November ballot measure that would require condoms in porn films. The Sacramento Bee reported that the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which has been the prime sponsor behind Propositio­n 60, filed the complaint with the commission. It alleges that the “No on Propositio­n 60” committee run by the porn industry accepted $75,000 in foreign contributi­ons from seven shell companies whose controllin­g entity is Global Personals Ltd., which is based in the United Kingdom. Mike Stabile, the No on 60 spokesman, said the complaint is mistaken.

5 School shooting: A coroner said Saturday that a 6-year-old boy died days after he was critically wounded in a school shooting in South Carolina. Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said Jacob Hall died from injuries suffered in the shooting Wednesday at Townville Elementary School. A bullet struck Jacob in a main artery in his leg, causing him to lose extensive blood. Another student and a first-grade teacher were also wounded when authoritie­s say a 14-year-old boy opened fire on a playground. The teen killed his father before he drove to the school, authoritie­s say. He was charged as a juvenile Friday with murder and three counts of attempted murder.
