Suns hold off Spurs

Devin Booker said he wanted to make the most of his visit to Mexico City. He did.

Booker scored 39 points for the second game in a row and the Phoenix Suns beat the San Antonio Spurs 108-105 on Saturday in the fifth regular-season game in Mexico.

Booker, whose grandfathe­r is from Mexico, had 39 points Thursday in a loss to the Dallas Mavericks in the Suns’ Mexico City opener.

“I’m proud of the team overall. We bounce back after what happened the other night against Dallas, we play against a really good team like the Spurs and we came out with a close win,” Booker said. “We are seeing beauty in the struggle. We played real well.”

“Devin Booker does not want to leave Mexico,” Suns head coach Earl Watson said. “He’s averaging 39 points, so he wants to play Utah on Monday” in Mexico City instead of Phoenix.

Kawhi Leonard had 38 points for the Spurs, who lost for the second time in three games.

“The Suns did a great job of being aggressive for 48 minutes,” Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. “They clearly played very competitiv­ely.”

Clippers 113, Lakers 97: In Los Angeles, DeAndre Jordan had 24 points and 21 rebounds and Chris Paul added 20 points and 13 assists as the host Clippers improved to 6-0 in 2017. Jordan Clarkson scored 21 points for the Lakers, who never led in losing their third in a row and seventh in 10 games.

Wizards 109, 76ers 93: John Wall had 25 points and Bradley Beal scored 20 as Washington extended its home win streak to 11 games. Jahlil Okafor had 26 points to lead Philadelph­ia, which had won three in a row.

Jazz 114, Magic 107: Gordon Hayward scored 23 points and Rudy Gobert had 19 points and 19 rebounds to lead host Utah, which lost Rodney Hood to a knee injury with 2:54 remaining. Elfrid Payton had 28 points. nine rebounds and nine assists for Orlando.

Bulls 107, Pelicans 99: Jimmy Butler scored 28 points and Dwyane Wade had 17 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter for host Chicago. Anthony Davis had 36 points and 14 rebounds for New Orleans.
