Lido “Lee” P. Galli

-

August 3, 1924 - December 28, 2016

Our dear Lido passed away peacefully at the age of 92, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased in 1980 by his wife of 34 years, Mary (Gianoli). Lido leaves behind three devoted daughters: Susan Opsvig (Paul), Nancy Hamilton (Robert) & Laura Galli; granddaughters Arianna Opsvig (Venktesh) & Ashley Hamilton Glass (Joe); greatgrandson Severin; & brother Edmund Galli. In addition, he will be missed by his extended family in the Bay Area and in Italy, along with his many friends.

Lido, a first generation American, was born in Alameda, California of Italian immigrant parents, Lidamo and Natalina. He was raised in San Francisco, graduated from Balboa High School, served with the U.S. Navy and moved with his bride to the Sunnybrae neighborhood of San Mateo where he resided for the past 68 years. As a young man, he worked as a mechanic with Pan American Airways, later in the hardware business, followed by many years with Stanley Works from which he retired.

Lido was an active member of the Italian Catholic Federation, Native Sons of the Golden West, SIRS and Peninsula Italian American Social Club. He enjoyed traveling and the great outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. An avid sports fan, he faithfully followed the 49ers, the Giants and Notre Dame. Big Band music, historical books, corny jokes and comedy movies were big favorites. He was admired and appreciated as a master tinkerer/brokenitem-fixer extraordinaire. Lido had a warm and accepting nature, always optimistic, and was loved by all who were fortunate to know him. Above all, he was devoted to his family. He will be deeply missed. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal”.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at St. Matthew Catholic Church Chapel, 1 Notre Dame Ave., San Mateo, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church in San Mateo or Mercy High School, Burlingame.
