Feature simulcast race: $10 million Dubai World Cup on Saturday at Meydan Racecourse

Update: Quick and Silver, the best male sprinter at Golden Gate Fields, and Fast and Foxy, the best female sprinter, won 6-furlong races last week with clockings just 0.03 of a second apart. How they got there produced very different margins of victory. Quick and Silver cleared his three opponents soon after the start of Friday’s allowance event and set leisurely fractions of 23.09 seconds, 45.70 and 57.45 en route to a 2¼-length win in 1:09.17. Fast and Foxy was pressed early in Saturday’s Camilla Urso Stakes, set fast fractions of 21.93, 44.45 and 56.43 and lasted by a nose over Turkish Tabby in 1:09.20. … Gotham Desire followed his 15-length maiden win at 5½ furlongs with a 3¼length victory going 1 mile in Saturday’s starter allowance for 3-yearold fillies. She ran the last quartermile in 23.39 seconds — more than a second faster than any of her previous quarters. She could be a candidate for the $100,000 Campanile Stakes for California-breds on the turf April 30. … Returning from an injury, jockey Barrington Harvey won with his first mount since Aug. 20 with a textbook frontrunning ride on 8-to-1 shot Underwrite in Sunday’s second race.

Elsewhere: Arrogate will pass California Chrome as North America’s leading money-earner if he stretches his winning streak to seven in the Dubai World Cup. Arrogate, who didn’t begin racing until April 17, had earned just $114,600 when he made his stakes debut in the Travers on Aug. 27. He earned $670,000 from that recordsetting 13½-length win and followed it with victories in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (earning $3.3 million) and the Pegasus World Cup ($7 million). The Dubai World Cup winner earns $6 million, which would push Arrogate to $17,084,600. California Chrome earned $14,752,650. Other American horses in the Dubai World Cup (9:45 a.m. PDT) are Gun Runner, Hoppertunity, Keen Ice and Neolithic. … Other races on the World Cup program with American entrants are the $1 million Godolphin Mile with Sharp Azteca, the $2 million UAE Derby with Master Plan, the $1 million Al Quoz Sprint with Richard’s Boy and Long on Value, and the $2 million Golden Shaheen with Mind Your Biscuits, St. Joe Bay and Stallwalkin’ Dude. … Darkwingsoverdubai, rallying winner of both sprints at Golden Gate Fields for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and owner Kevin Nish, runs in the Grade 3, $100,000 Bourbonette Oaks going 1 mile Saturday at Turfway Park. Frank Alvarado, who rode Darkwingsoverdubai at GGF, will be aboard again. … My Kentucky Derby top 10: Gunnevera, McCraken, One Liner, Tapwrit, Girvin, J Boy Echo, Iliad, Epicharis, Practical Joke, El Areeb.
