In a pre-draft visit that can be filed under the you-never-know category, the 49ers will host Texas A&M passrusher Myles Garrett in April.

Garrett is widely expected to be selected by the Browns with the first overall pick, but the 49ers, who have the No. 2 selection, are doing their due diligence. General manager John

Lynch saw Garrett on Thursday at Texas A&M’s pro day. Garrett told the Houston Chronicle he has upcoming visits scheduled with the 49ers and the Bears, who select No. 3. Last week, head coach

Kyle Shanahan said the 49ers were trying to account for every possible scenario during their preparation for the draft. The 49ers can host 30 prospects for predraft visits.

“You’ve got to talk about every option because you never know what will happen,” Shanahan said. “You’ve got to be ready for anything that someone will call you on, whether it’s a trade or not. So you have to go through all those because they can happen quick, especially when you get closer to draft day.”

Garrett, 6-foot-4 and 272 pounds, ran the 40-yard dash in an unofficial time of 4.61 seconds Thursday after clocking a 4.64 at the NFL combine. He had 31 sacks and 47 tackles for losses in his three-year college career.

“It’s well-documented, I’m not saying anything groundbreaking, he’s a special athlete,” Lynch told reporters Thursday.

The 49ers have a desperate need for passrush help. The have the fifth-fewest sacks (61) in the NFL over the past two seasons and outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks, who has a team-high 12.5 sacks since 2015, turned 33 on March 14. Adams on radar: The 49ers met with LSU safety Jamal Adams earlier this month at the combine, a source said. Adams and Ohio State’s Malik Hooker are considered the best safety prospects and each is a potential top-five pick. LSU will have its pro day Wednesday.
