Dina O. Burkey (nee Orlandi)

Dina O. Burkey (nee Orlandi) passed from us on Feb.20th 2017. Born on Aug. 6th 1919 to parents Giuseppe and Maria Orlandi, she was raised in San Francisco’s North Beach.

Dina attended Garfield Elementary School and Galileo High School where she first learned the joy of dancing to the Big Band music of her brother Dino’s band and many others. A pleasure she cultivated the rest of her life.

After high school Dina went to work in the insurance industry where she met her future husband, Francis Burkey. They married on Aug. 1st, 1942 and welcomed their first child, Carolyn, in 1943.1948 saw the arrival of a son, Kenneth and in 1954 a third child, Douglas, was born.

After living in the Sunset District, Dina and her family moved to the Westlake District of Daly City in 1950, remaining for 56 years.

Dina was a founding member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and an active volunteer and contributo­r to the church’s well being. She was a tireless volunteer at the Doelger Senior Center for over 15 years.

Dina is known and will be remembered for her generosity and compassion toward people. Her unconditio­nal love allowed all who encountere­d her to feel worthy and loved. Many people called her Mom.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn, Ken and Doug Burkey, grandchild­ren Jason, Sasha, Carly, Nick, Sam and Frances, Great grandson Kavan and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank many people for the care our mother received, but especially the wonderful people at Loving Touch Care and for the loving care our mother and her children received from Hospice by the Bay.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 15th, at Fernwood Funeral Home, 301 Tennessee Valley Rd., Mill Valley at 1:00.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hospice by the Bay or another favorite charity.
