Shirley and Bruce parented two children and spent their entire lives in San Francisco. Shirley was the classic 1950’s mother, staying at home to raise her boys. Shirley had a voracious appetite for reading, having read numerous books and the WSJ and the local Chronicle newspaper daily. She was also fond of investing and playing the market”. She enjoyed discussing current events, especially those of an economic or political nature. Shirley, Bruce and sons spent many hours sitting on the living room sofa in deep discussions about politics and life.

Shirley enjoyed living in the city and in her later years, she and Bruce were accompanied by their 4 legged friends. In particular, they developed an affinity to Belgian Sheepdogs, having 3 over the last 25 years. Shirley also worked to revitalize Stern Grove and to maintain access for dogs.

Shirley dealt with a series of health problem throughout her life, only to succumb to dementia. Shirley is survived by her sons, Kirk, Mark and daughter-in-law, Angelica Medina-Selby (Mark). She also leaves behind 4 grandsons, Nicolas, Tomas, Chris and Kyle. Shirley appreciated the dedicated friendship of her longtime friend, Cathy Leonard, having known her since 1960. During the last 1.5 years of her life Shirley was well tended to by the dedicated staff at Alma Via of San Francisco. No service will be held. A donation in her honor to the SPCA would be appreciated.
