1 Missing boy: Authorities in Los Angeles County searched Monday for a missing 5-year-old boy whose father was arrested two days earlier after being found unconscious in a park. South Pasadena Police Chief Art Miller said investigators were having a difficult time getting answers from the boy’s father, Aramazd Andressian Sr. He was arrested Saturday on suspicion of child endangerment and child abduction after paramedics found him unconscious in South Pasadena’s Arroyo Park. Investigators don’t know why the man was unconscious, Miller said, adding that there is no evidence he was attacked. The child’s mother reported Saturday that her estranged husband had failed to drop the boy, Aramazd Andressian Jr., off at a prearranged meeting place.

2 Triple homicide: A shooting involving gang members killed three people early Monday inside a home in Savannah, Ga., police said. The victims were identified by authorities as Courtney German, 31, William Mullins, 24, and Shayla Curtis, 18. A person of interest in the case was arrested on unrelated charges in nearby Jasper County, S.C., but had not been charged in the Savannah slaying, said police Lt. Racine Chaney .

3 Space record: Astronaut Peggy Whitson broke the U.S. record Monday for most time in space and talked up Mars during a congratulatory call from President Trump. The International Space Station’s commander surpassed the record of 534 days, two hours and 48 minutes for most accumulated time in space by an American. “This is a very special day in the glorious history of American spaceflight,” Trump said. The world record — 879 days — is held by Russian Gennady Padalka. Whitson broke the NASA cumulative record set last year by astronaut Jeffrey Williams; Scott Kelly holds the U.S. record for consecutive days in space — 340.

4 Beloved tree: A white oak tree that has watched over a New Jersey community and a church for hundreds of years began its final bow Monday as crews started its removal. Crews at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church in Bernards began taking down the 600-yearold tree that was declared dead after it began showing rot and weakness the last couple of years. The tree has been an important part of the community since the town’s inception in the 1700s. Officials say it was the site of a picnic Gen. George Washington held with the Marquis de Lafayette. 5 Office shooting: A man fatally shot his female supervisor and then killed himself in a Dallas office building Monday, police said. The office was in a multistory building near a highway interchange in the northern part of the city. Assistant Police Chief Randy Blankenbaker said there were witnesses to the shooting who were not injured. The identities of the two were not immediately released. An officer had to shoot a glass entry door to access the office where the shooting took place, Blankenbaker said. One of the officers suffered minor injuries from broken glass during the entry.
